NOTE to HIKE Coordinator: When a child in your area has applied for a HIKE Award, you receive a letter from the HIKE Board 1st Reader telling you the request has been sent to the HIKE Board Audiologist for approval. The amount of time from the receipt of the application to the actual time the award is paid and sent to you will vary. It is usually 4 to 6 months. Awards at the present time are averaging (see above). When you get the letter from the 1st Reader, you may want to start thinking about the presentation of the check when it is received. When all possible the presentation should be made by a local Bethel. If there is not Bethel in the area, you should contact a Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star Chapter or Amaranth Court who would be willing to do this for you. If this is not possible, you may want to contact the supplier. The supplier is usually willing to write an article and take photographs. Follow the direction received with the check for the recipient release form, JDI Release form and preparation of the news article. Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of the deaf children and all of us who work to help them. The HIKE
