COLORADO HIKE Presentation

The Worshipful Master of Brush Masonic Lodge #123, Brush, CO made a HIKE award at their meeting on February 15th to 4 year old Shea. There were fourteen Masons in attendance and four members of the family - Mom Tina, Brother Travis, Shea, and Grandmother Tammy. What made the presentation more special was that all of the Masons in attendance knew the family personally. They said Shea is cute as a button and once she gets to know you, she will talk your ears off even though she is hearing impaired.

Reporters from two area newspapers were there taking pictures, so they were expecting some good publicity. The Master gave a nice talk explaining HIKE before he presented the check. A plug was put in for both HIKE and Job's Daughters and they are interested in the possibility of starting a Bethel. Several Masons gave remarks about how touching the presentation was, even bringing tears to their eyes.

On February 11 Bethel #8 of Caldwell, Idaho, hosted a "Sweetheart's Dinner" and invited one-year-old J.T. and his mother, Melissa, and father, Ric, to join them for a Spaghetti Dinner. After having dinner with the family and visiting with them, the Bethel members presentd the family with a check from HIKE so that J.T. can have his own hearing aids. The family was very happy to receive the check. His mother said that when they found out that J.T. needed hearing aids they applied to several different organizations and HIKE was the first to respond to the request for assistance. The members of Bethel #8 were very pleased to be asked to make the presentation and were interested to learn that Melissa herself was a member of Bethel #6 in Meridian, Idaho several years ago. After the presentation was made, the family shared dessert and visited with the Bethel members and members of Mt. Moriah Lodge #39 A.F.& A.M. and Hermosa Chapter #32, OES that attended the dinner.

Georgia February

Because there are no Job's Daughters in Georgia, an audiologist at
the Speech and Hearing Clinic at the University of Georgia presented an award check to the family of Lucy Z. to buy an FM system for her. When the parents received the check they told Lucy that the money was sent by a group of good people. She could use the money to buy her FM system so she could hear better. She was very excited. The audiologist who presented the check to Lucy expressed how happy she was to know Lucy got support from The HIKE Fund. "As parents of Lucy, we would like to thank all of you in the HIKE Fund for the financial aid to their daughter."

Louisiana January 2005
Submitted by Edna Jackson, Past Royal Matron, Louisiana Court #1 Order of the Amaranth

A HIKE presentation was made in January 2005 by Edna G., GC, RM, Louisiana Court #1, Order of Amaranth to Clarke Bordelon. The members of Louisiana Court #1 were "...very honored to assist your wonderful Order of Job's Daughters in the presentation". At their regular monthly meeting, they had invited the DeMolay along with Clarke and his mother, Susan to dinner. The DeMolay performed The Flower Talk for all present, after which a check was presented to Susan. "It was a thrill for us to share this night with them. Again thank you."

Editors note: Isn't it nice that our appendant bodies are so willing to help when no Bethel is in the area.

Thank you from Mom

"My name is Susan Bordelon, I live in Metairie Louisiana. Tonight, my son Clarke received the HIKE Fund gift check to purchase the Soundfield system he needs for his auditory impairment. We met with Mrs. Edna Jackson at her group's meeting, and she presented it to us, from Job's Daughters. I saw your name on the check, Thank you!

I have spoken with the representative of Lightspeed Technologies, and will be sending him the check in the morning. Mr. Southard of Lightspeed Technologies said as soon as they receive the check we send, he will mail the hearing device to my son.

I am so grateful to the Job's Daughters for this wonderful gift - because of their help, my little boy will hear better. We will always be thankful to them.

We would like very much to send cards of thanks and letters to the group of girls who are so generously helping Clarke. Please let me know where I should send these.

Again, thank you for everything! Sincerely, "

Montana Kids Helping Kids
Submitted by Sharon Logan, Vice Jurisdictional Guardian of Montana

At the Lewis and Clark Dinner held on Tuesday, September 28th, at the Al Bedoo Shrine auditorium, we presented a $1633 award to Philip Powell, a freshman at MSU-Billings so he could purchase a hearing aid for school. The award was granted by the Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment Fund, Inc. created in 1985. Most commonly known as HIKE, the Fund was developed as the international philanthropic project for Job's Daughters.

HIKE is amazing. When you are able to give a child something that you know will change their life forever, it is the most wonderful feeling. HIKE provides children with hearing impairments, from newborns to 20 years old, with hearing devices to help families in need of financial assistance. To see the look on the family's face when you hand them the check makes you realize the deep impact of your actions on other people.

We feel honored to have been able to make this presentation and would like to thank all those who contributed to our fundraising endeavors this year. If you are interested in donating to the dreams of hearing impaired children, send a check for whatever amount, big or small, to your local Bethel. Thank you for your support.

Seeing our daughter progressing everyday in her speech development and social skills is a constant reminder for us of your compassion and kindness. We want you to know that every time you help a child to start hearing you open for them a new world of sound that they might never fully understand and explore. By doing this you make world richer and better. Thank you very much, we love you.
